High Desert Collection
Hand-thrown durable tableware
U.S. Route 395 winds down from the Pacific Northwest all the way into the heart of the Mojave Desert. The collection was inspired by the sprawling desert landscape and the soaring Eastern Sierra that flank this two-lane highway — from ancient trees and the intoxicating scent of sagebrush to the limestone Tufa Towers of Mono Lake. Each time I return to these arid destinations, I discover something new and wonderful, as if visiting for the first time all over again.
The High Desert Collection embodies the essence of these still-wild places, with a dusty red clay that echoes the earth’s rust-colored terrain. Textured and gritty, this particular clay is unique, leaving marks from the maker behind in the firing process — much like passing through the fragile environment of a desert ecosystem, we leave our own careful footprints behind.
I’ve been eager to introduce a tableware collection for some time. In my own life, the best ideas, travel plans, and stirrings of adventure are born around the kitchen table in the company of friends and family. It’s my hope that these pieces will bring your own tribe together over good food and conversation, inspiring your own adventures.
